What each ingredient does

Corn
Long soaking and boiling soften the tough outer hulls so they can be rinsed away.

The step that matters

Rinse until thoroughly clean. Boiling loosens the hulls and skins, and any left behind stay tough and gritty. Repeated rinsing in fresh water washes away the loosened hull fragments before the final boil.
