Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

All-purpose flour
Forms the pastry structure that holds the jam inside the roll during boiling.
Raspberry jam
Adds fruit sweetness and moisture that fills the pastry layers.
Melted butter
Adds richness and fat that coats the dumplings and carries flavor.
Granulated sugar
Adds sweetness on the outside of the dumplings.

The step that matters

Boil the log in a cloth for at least 1 hour. The cloth must be secured so the roll keeps its shape, and the water must stay at a steady boil. If the roll loses its shape or the water stops boiling, the pastry can turn soggy and the dumplings can fall apart.
