Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Gelatin
Sets the juice and cream into a firm, sliceable structure as it cools.
Whipped cream
Adds air and richness, giving the set dessert a light, creamy texture.
Strawberries
Supply the main flavour and colour, with their juice providing moisture.

The step that matters

Stir the mixture on ice until it thickens. Gelatin begins to set as it cools, so the mixture must thicken to a spoonable state before folding in the whipped cream. If it sets too far, it becomes lumpy and the cream cannot blend in evenly; if it stays too thin, the dessert will not hold its shape in the mold.

Swap the peach

The recipe marks peach as optional. How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (cream, sugar, pineapple):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Strawberryfits better
  3. Bananafits about as well
  4. Peachthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against cream, sugar, pineapple. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
