The flavor team

The pairs that carry this dish. Each one is judged two ways: how much their aromas overlap, and how often cooks already put them together.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Butter
Creams with the sugar to add richness and a tender crumb.
Sugar
Sweetens the dough and helps create a tender texture when creamed with butter.
Eggs
Bind the dough and add structure and richness.
Pastry flour
Provides the structure that holds the shaped letters together.

The step that matters

Knead until thoroughly mixed. Uneven mixing leaves pockets of flour or butter, so some cookies spread or dry out differently. Kneading until the dough is uniform gives consistent shape and texture in the oven.
