Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

White beans
Form the body of the soup and become creamy as they cook through.
Olive oil
Carries the aromatics and helps them soften and build flavor.
Onion
Adds sweetness and savory depth as it softens in the oil.
Lemon juice
Adds brightness and acidity that lifts the flavor at the end.
Zucchini
Adds soft texture and mild vegetable flavor as it cooks through.

The step that matters

Simmer the beans until fully tender. Dried beans need a long, gentle simmer to soften evenly; adding acid or salt too early in cooking can toughen the skins and slow softening, so seasoning is held until the end.

Swap the clove
