Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Rice
Breaks down into a puree that gives the drink its body and thickness.
Sugar
Sweetens the drink and, when cooked, thickens the juice mixture into a syrup.
Orange juice
Adds fruity acidity and sweetness that give the drink its citrus flavour.
Lemon juice
Adds sharp acidity that balances the sweetness of the sugar and fruit.
Pineapple juice
Contributes tropical fruit flavour and sweetness along with moisture.

The step that matters

Simmering the rice until very soft. Rice must be fully tender before pureeing; starch that stays firm will leave grit and a thin, uneven texture in the drink.
