Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cucumbers
Provide the main body and fresh, watery bulk of the soup.
Green bell peppers
Add grassy, vegetal flavor and body to the blended soup.
Scallions
Contribute sharp allium flavor that brightens the soup.
Olive oil
Adds fat for a smoother mouthfeel and carries flavor.
White wine vinegar
Adds acidity that sharpens flavors and balances the vegetables.

The step that matters

Adjust seasoning after blending. Chilling dulls perceived salt and acidity, so tasting and adjusting while the soup is at room temperature matters. Adding water too freely also dilutes flavor, so thin only as needed.

Swap the clove

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (cucumber, pepper, garlic, white wine, vinegar, olive):

  1. Tarragonfits better
  2. Thymefits better
  3. Parsleyfits better
  4. Clovethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against cucumber, pepper, garlic, white wine, vinegar, olive. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
