Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Mangos
Provide the main fruit flavor, sweetness, and the moist, soft filling once cooked and mashed.
Pie crust
Forms the flaky pastry shell that encloses the filling and holds it in during baking.
Sugar
Sweetens the filling and helps the mango cook down into a thick, spreadable mixture.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the mango flavor and balances the sweetness.
Orange juice concentrate
Adds concentrated citrus flavor and extra sweetness to the mango filling.
Cinnamon
Adds warm aroma that complements the mango and sugar coating.

The step that matters

Sealing and crimping the edges. Moistening and pressing the edges fuses the dough, and crimping reinforces the seal. A weak seal lets juicy mango filling leak out and burn during baking.

Swap the mango

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (lemon, orange, sugar, cinnamon):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Limefits better
  3. Blueberryfits better
  4. Mangothe original

Fit is the average pairing score against lemon, orange, sugar, cinnamon. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
