Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Sweet potatoes
Add moisture and a soft, tender crumb to the dough.
Eggs
Add structure and richness, helping the buns hold their shape.
Flour
Forms the gluten network that gives the dough its structure and chew.
Yeast
Ferments the dough so it rises and becomes light and airy.
Butter
Adds fat for a tender texture and rich flavor.
Milk
Adds richness and softness to the dough.

The step that matters

Knead until smooth. Kneading develops the gluten network that traps the yeast gas, so the buns rise well and keep a soft, even crumb. Under-kneaded dough can be dense and tear easily.
