Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Sweet potatoes
Provide the main starchy body and moist, tender texture of the bread.
Banana
Adds moisture and natural sweetness, helping the bread stay soft.
Brown sugar
Adds sweetness and moisture, and helps the top brown during baking.
Evaporated milk
Adds liquid and milk solids that give a tender crumb and browning.
Coconut milk
Adds liquid, richness and fat, keeping the bake moist.
Butter
Adds fat for richness and a softer, more tender texture.

The step that matters

Bake until a toothpick comes out clean. The bake is wet and starchy, so it can look set on top while the center is still custardy. Testing the center with a toothpick confirms it is fully cooked before cooling.
