Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cream cheese
Creamy filling that softens and melts slightly during baking, keeping the rolls moist inside.
Honey
Adds sweetness and helps the tops brown as the sugars caramelize in the oven.
Crescent dinner rolls
Flaky, layered dough that puffs and bakes into the rolls' outer structure.
Sliced almonds
Add crunch and a nutty flavor that contrasts with the soft filling.

The step that matters

Rolling the filled triangles. Rolling loosely from the short side keeps the filling inside. Overfilling or rolling tightly can cause leaks, and filling that escapes may burn on the baking sheet.

Swap the almond

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (cream cheese, honey, cinnamon):

  1. Almondthe original
  2. Walnutfits about as well
  3. Pecansfits less well
  4. Pistachiofits less well

Fit is the average pairing score against cream cheese, honey, cinnamon. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
