Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Bread crumbs
Form the body of the pudding and absorb the milk as it soaks.
Milk
Provides the liquid that softens the bread and forms the custard base.
Eggs
Set during baking to bind the pudding into a sliceable, custard-like texture.
Sugar
Adds sweetness and helps the crust brown slightly during baking.
Butter
Adds richness and fat, giving a softer, more tender texture.

The step that matters

Bake one hour in a slow oven. Eggs set gently at low heat. Too much heat can curdle them, leaving the pudding grainy, watery, or overcooked on the outside before the center sets.

“What each ingredient does” and “The step that matters” were written by Claude from this recipe’s own method and reviewed in samples by CompKitchen.
