Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point. The book gives no cooking times either; the times in the steps were added in transcription, so check for doneness rather than trusting the clock.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a bowl, cream the butter and sugar together.

  3. Add the eggs, water or milk, and lemon juice; mix well.

  4. In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, nutmeg, and mix into the wet ingredients until soft.

  5. Roll the dough thin and cut into desired shapes.

  6. Place on a baking sheet, sprinkle sugar on top, and add almonds if using.

  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden.
