Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Gelatin
Sets the liquid into a firm, sliceable gel as it cools.
Sugar
Sweetens the dish and dissolves into the liquid to flavour the gel.
Peaches
Provide fruit flavour and soft texture suspended in the gelatin.

The step that matters

Letting the mixture thicken before pouring over the peaches. If the gelatin is poured in while still fully liquid, the peaches may float or settle unevenly. Waiting until it just begins to thicken lets it hold the fruit in place as it sets on ice.

Swap the peach

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (gelatin, sugar, almond, cream):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Raisinfits about as well
  3. Coconutfits about as well

Fit is the average pairing score against gelatin, sugar, almond, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
