Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a well-buttered baking dish, layer sliced apples and sprinkle with sugar.

  3. Add a layer of bread crumbs and place several pieces of butter on top.

  4. Repeat the layers of apples, sugar, bread crumbs, and butter.

  5. Pour enough water over the layers to start cooking the apples.

  6. Top with chopped English walnuts if desired.

  7. Serve warm with sugar and cream.
