Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Sweet potatoes
Starchy flesh that cooks until soft and tender, forming the body of the dish.
Butter
Adds fat and richness to the potatoes, carrying flavour and moisture.

The step that matters

Boil until easily pierced with a fork. Potatoes must be cooked through so the starch softens evenly; underdone centres stay firm and chalky, while the steaming afterward helps finish the texture.
