Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a hot oven”. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

  1. Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm water.

  2. Mix the dissolved yeast with the sugar, salt, beaten eggs, grated orange rind, melted butter, and orange juice.

  3. Add the flour gradually and knead until elastic.

  4. Cover the dough and let it rise until doubled in size.

  5. Shape the dough into loaves and let them rise again.

  6. Bake the loaves in a hot oven at 400°F (200°C) until golden brown.
