Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cauliflower
Provides the main bulk and a tender, firm texture once boiled.
Lettuce
Forms the crisp base that holds the other ingredients.
Eggs
Add richness and body from the cooked whites and yolks.
Oil and vinegar
Dressing that adds fat for moisture and acidity for brightness.

The step that matters

Break the boiled cauliflower carefully into small pieces.. Once cooked, cauliflower becomes soft and fragile, so rough handling turns it mushy. Gentle breaking keeps the florets intact and the salad textured.

Swap the lettuce

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (cauliflower, egg, vinegar):

  1. Cucumberfits better
  2. Mustardfits better
  3. Broccolifits better
  4. Lettucethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against cauliflower, egg, vinegar. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
