Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Gelatin
Sets the liquid into a firm, sliceable gel when chilled.
Lemons
Add acidity that balances the sugar and brightens the flavor.
Sugar
Adds sweetness that balances the tart lemon juice.
Cucumbers
Provide fresh flavor and moisture that stays suspended in the gel.

The step that matters

Cool the mixture before adding the cucumber and pineapple. Gelatin begins to set as it cools, so adding fruit or cucumber while the mixture is still warm can let them sink or float unevenly. Cooling it first helps the pieces stay evenly distributed as the gel firms.

Swap the cucumber

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (pineapple, lemon, gelatin, sugar):

  1. Capsicumfits better
