Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Sugar
Provides sweetness and, with the pectin in the fruit, helps the jam set.
Grape pulp
Forms the fruit base and supplies the moisture and body of the jam.
Nuts
Add crunch and a toasty, rich texture to the jam.
Seedless raisins
Add concentrated sweetness and chewy texture.

The step that matters

Cook until it jellies. Sugar and fruit pectin must be cooked to the right concentration for the jam to set. Undercooking leaves it runny, while overcooking can make it stiff and sugary.

Swap the grape

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (nuts, sugar, raisin):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Figfits better
  3. Datesfits better
  4. Grapethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against nuts, sugar, raisin. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
