Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Gelatin
Sets the mixture into a firm, sliceable structure as it cools.
Cream
Whipped to add airiness and a rich, smooth texture.
Pineapple
Provides the main fruit flavor and moisture in the mixture.
Sugar
Adds sweetness and helps dissolve into the hot pineapple base.

The step that matters

Fold in the cream at the right gelatin stage. If the gelatin mixture is still runny, the whipped cream will deflate and the dessert won't hold its shape. If it has set too firmly, the cream won't blend evenly. Wait until it is as stiff as jelly, then fold gently.

Swap the nuts

The recipe marks nuts as optional. How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (gelatin, sugar, lemon, pineapple, cream):

  1. Pistachiofits better
  2. Almondfits better
  3. Chestnutfits better
  4. Nutsthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against gelatin, sugar, lemon, pineapple, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
