  1. Heat an omelet pan.

  2. Rub the pan with butter until it covers the surface.

  3. Pour the omelet mixture into the pan and spread it evenly.

  8. Fold the omelet in half.

  9. Invert the omelet onto a hot platter.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Whites trapped as foam and yolks set together give the omelet its light, tender structure.
Milk
Adds moisture and dilutes the egg proteins, keeping the omelet softer and more tender.
Butter
Coats the pan so the omelet releases cleanly and browns lightly on the underside.

The step that matters

Fold the whites in gently. Beaten egg whites are a foam of trapped air. Stirring vigorously knocks that air out, so the omelet cooks flat and dense instead of light.

Swap the parsley

The recipe marks parsley as optional. How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (egg, milk, pepper, butter):

  1. Nutmegfits about as well
  2. Parsleythe original
  3. Cinnamonfits about as well
  4. Tarragonfits less well

Fit is the average pairing score against egg, milk, pepper, butter. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
