Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Stale bread crumbs
Absorb the milk and egg mixture, forming the soft body of the pudding.
Eggs
Bind the mixture and set during baking to give the pudding its custard-like structure.
Milk
Soaks into the bread and provides the liquid that the eggs set in.
Sugar
Adds sweetness and helps with browning on the surface.

Swap the raisin

The recipe marks raisin as optional. How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (bread, egg, milk, sugar, nutmeg, butter):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Figfits better
  3. Raisinthe original
  4. Lemonfits about as well

Fit is the average pairing score against bread, egg, milk, sugar, nutmeg, butter. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
