Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Oysters
Provide the main filling, cooking quickly in the batter to stay tender inside.
Eggs
Thicken the batter and bind it so it coats the oysters and sets as it fries.

The step that matters

Fry the skewers in hot oil until golden brown. Oil that is not hot enough lets the batter soak up fat and turn greasy before it sets. Hot oil sets the egg coating quickly, forming a crisp shell while the oysters stay juicy inside.

Swap the parsley

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (oyster, egg):

  1. Capersfits better
  2. Nutmegfits about as well
  3. Parsleythe original
  4. Dillfits about as well

Fit is the average pairing score against oyster, egg. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
