Stuffed Fotatoes

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

Prepare and bake

  1. Wash potatoes with a brush.

  2. Bake them in a lightly oiled dish at 400°F (200°C) for about 30 minutes until they begin to soften.

  3. Cut off one end of each potato and scoop out the inside into a saucepan.

Make the filling

  1. Add the butter, white pepper, salt, and grated Parmesan cheese to the saucepan and stir over heat until scalding hot.

Stuff and serve

  1. Fill the potato skins with the mixture, replace the ends, and gently press the potatoes into shape.

  2. Finish baking the stuffed potatoes in the oven.

  3. Serve on a hot dish covered with a napkin.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Potatoes
Form the edible shell and provide a soft, fluffy interior once scooped and filled.
Butter
Adds fat and richness, and moistens the mashed potato filling.
Parmesan cheese
Adds a savoury, salty flavour and helps the filling taste rich.

The step that matters

Scoop the potatoes while they are still soft. Partial baking softens the starch so the flesh scoops out easily. The skins are thin and can split if they are cut or pressed too hard, so handle them gently when filling and shaping.

Swap the white pepper

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (potato, butter, parmesan cheese):

  1. Garlicfits better
  2. Parsleyfits better
  3. Thymefits better
  4. White pepperthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against potato, butter, parmesan cheese. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
