Caramel Cake

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.

  3. Add the milk, then one cup of flour, followed by the egg whites and the remaining flour.

  4. Flavor the batter with vanilla and lemon or a little sherry wine.

  5. For the filling, boil the brown sugar or maple syrup with the sweet cream until it forms a soft ball in water.

  6. Pour the filling into a dish, add a teaspoon of butter, and beat until light brown.

  7. Flavor the filling with vanilla.

  8. Place the filling between two layers of cake and ice the top with boiled icing.
