Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Bananas
Provide the main flavor and body, and their mashed pulp gives the ice cream its creamy texture.
Sugar
Sweetens the mixture and lowers the freezing point, keeping the ice cream softer and scoopable.
Heavy cream
Adds fat and whipped air, creating a rich, smooth texture.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the flavor and balances the sweetness.

The step that matters

Fold in the whipped cream gently. Whipped cream holds air that gives the ice cream its lightness. Vigorous stirring deflates it, leaving a denser, heavier texture.

Swap the banana

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, orange, lemon, cream):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Limefits better
  3. Raspberryfits better
  4. Bananathe original

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, orange, lemon, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
