Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Potatoes
Form the hollow shell that holds the stuffing and cooks to a soft, tender interior.
Breadcrumbs
Absorb the cream and egg, giving the stuffing body and a light, crumbly texture.
Egg yolk
Binds the stuffing so it holds its shape when spooned into the potatoes.
Cream
Moistens the breadcrumbs so the stuffing stays soft rather than dry.
Shallot
Adds a mild, savoury onion flavour to the stuffing.

The step that matters

Scoop out the centers without breaking them. Thin walls can tear when the centers are hollowed, and a broken shell lets the stuffing leak and the potato lose its shape during baking.

Swap the potato

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (parsley, thyme, chive, shallot, pepper, cream, egg):
