What each ingredient does

Oats
Provide the grain that sprouts, supplying starch and sweetness as the sprouts develop.
Water
Hydrates the oats so the grain can soften and begin to sprout.

The step that matters

Keep the oats moist and turning during sprouting. Oats that dry out stop sprouting, and oats left unstirred can mat and sour. Daily watering and stirring keep moisture even so the sprouts develop evenly.
