Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Hard-boiled eggs
Provide the structure for the stuffed halves and the mashed yolk filling.
Butter
Adds richness and a smooth, moist texture to the mashed yolk filling.
Cream
Loosens the mashed yolks so the filling is soft and easy to spread.
Cracker crumbs
Form a crisp, golden coating that browns when fried.
Well-beaten egg
Binds the coating so the crumbs stick to the stuffed eggs.

The step that matters

Frying in boiling fat until light brown. The fat must be hot enough to brown the cracker crumb coating quickly. If it is too cool, the coating absorbs oil and turns greasy before it crisps.
