Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Liver
Its own juices brown the surface, building flavor in the pan.
Onion
Sliced onion adds sweetness and aroma to the gravy.
Butter
Adds fat and richness to the pan sauce.

The step that matters

Boil once, then return the liver for one more minute. Liver turns tough and grainy when overcooked. A brief final heat in the gravy keeps it tender and moist.
