Strawberry Short-cake

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Prepare baking powder biscuit dough, adding a little more shortening.

  2. Divide the dough in half. Roll each half to cover a biscuit tin or large pie tin.

  3. Spread soft butter on the bottom crust and place the top crust on it.

  4. Repeat with the second half of the dough.

  5. Bake in a 400°F (200°C) oven until golden.

  6. Once baked, separate the layers where the butter was spread.

  7. Butter each crust generously and place the bottom crust on serving plates.

  8. Top with the prepared strawberries and place the top crusts on the fruit.

  9. Pour any remaining juice around the cake and serve with sweet cream.
