Plaix Boiled Rice

Ingredients

Directions

Prepare

  1. Pick the rice clean and wash it thoroughly in two waters, discarding the last wash.

Cook

  1. Pour the rice into the boiling water and boil steadily for 30 minutes.

  2. Do not stir the rice to prevent it from sinking and burning.

  3. To check if the rice is done, take out some grains and crush them between your fingers; they should mash easily and feel soft.

Serve

  1. Serve with sugar and fresh or condensed milk, or with stewed fruits.

What each ingredient does

Rice
Provides the starch that softens and swells into the body of the dish.
Boiling water
Hydrates the rice grains so they cook through evenly as they soften.

The step that matters

Do not stir the rice while it boils. Stirring knocks loose starch from the grains, making the rice gummy and sticky, and the grains that settle to the bottom can scorch and burn while the rest stays unevenly cooked.
