Gold and Silver Cake

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a bowl, mix the egg yolks, butter, sugar, flour, sour milk, baking soda, cornstarch, lemon extract, and vanilla until smooth.

  3. In another bowl, cream together the sugar and butter for the silver part.

  4. Add the flour, sour milk, baking soda, cornstarch, egg whites, and almond or peach extract to the silver mixture and mix well.

  5. In a prepared pan, alternate spoonfuls of the gold and silver batters.
