What each ingredient does

Turkey
Forms the main body of the dish, cooked whole and served as the centerpiece.
Breadcrumbs
Absorb butter and juices in the stuffing, keeping the filling moist and soft.
Butter
Adds fat and richness, and helps the skin brown when basted over the bird.
Flour
Dusted on the skin, it helps the surface brown and crisp in the oven.

The step that matters

Roast in a 400°F (200°C) oven until golden brown. A whole bird cooks unevenly, so the thickest parts can stay underdone while the skin over them darkens quickly. Checking the internal temperature of the thickest part of the breast and thigh helps confirm the meat is fully cooked before serving.

Swap the cranberry

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (turkey, butter, pepper, thyme, flour, sauce):

  1. Lemonfits about as well
  2. Cranberrythe original
  3. Limefits about as well
  4. Plumfits less well

Fit is the average pairing score against turkey, butter, pepper, thyme, flour, sauce. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
