Jam Cake

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Mix the milk, butter, sugar, flour, eggs, chopped walnuts, baking powder, and lemon extract in the order listed.

  2. Bake the mixture in layers at 350°F (175°C).

  3. For the filling, mix sugar, vinegar, and water in a saucepan and boil until it reaches a taffy consistency.

  4. Pour the hot mixture into the well-beaten egg whites and beat until cold.

  5. Spread the filling between the layers of cake.
