Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

White bread sponge
Ferments and lightens the dough so it rises and becomes light.
Egg yolk
Enriches the dough, adding richness and helping bind it together.
Peanut cream
Adds moisture and richness to the dough, softening its texture.
Tart apples
Provide acidity and fruit flavour that balances the sweetness of the topping.
Egg white
Beaten to stiff peaks, it forms a light meringue that adds volume and a delicate crust.

The step that matters

Let the dough rise until light. Rising depends on the sponge's fermentation in a warm place. Under-proofed dough stays dense, while over-proofed dough collapses and loses structure, so judge by lightness rather than time alone.

Swap the apple

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (bread, egg, peanut, cream, flour, sugar):

  1. Vanillafits better

Fit is the average pairing score against bread, egg, peanut, cream, flour, sugar. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
