Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Clams
Provide the main flavor and body of the soup.
Butter
Adds richness and fat, carrying flavor through the soup.
Flour
Thickens the soup as it is combined with the butter.
Crackers
Add body and help thicken the soup.
Sweet cream
Adds richness and a smooth, creamy texture.

The step that matters

Just before serving, add 1 cup of sweet cream.. Cream added too early can keep simmering and may split or thicken too much. Adding it near the end keeps it smooth and fresh-tasting.

Swap the mace

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (clam, butter, flour, pepper, cream):

  1. Nutmegfits better
  2. Parsleyfits better
