Crullers and Doughnuts

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Heat the lard or beef suet in a deep kettle until it simmers.

  2. Test the fat by dropping in a piece of bread; if it browns quickly, it's ready.

  3. Make the dough as soft as possible to handle.

  4. Fry the doughnuts for about 8 minutes, watching closely.

  5. Drain the cooked doughnuts in a skimmer and place them in a colander or on thick paper.

  6. To clarify used fat, add sliced raw potato and let it settle before straining into a jar.
