Jam Sandwiches

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 400°F in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Roll out the putty paste to ¼ inch thick and fold it like a sheet of paper.

  2. Roll out another piece to ⅛ inch thick and 12 inches wide.

  3. Roll this piece into a cylinder 2 inches in diameter, wet the edge to seal, and flatten to ¾ inch thick.

  4. Cut into slices ¼ inch thick and place them cut side down on a baking pan, leaving space to spread.

  5. Bake until golden, then dust with powdered sugar and return to a hot oven (400°F) to melt the sugar for a glaze.

  6. Alternatively, use a salamander to glaze them quickly.

  7. Spread raspberry jam or jelly on one slice and stick another on top.
