Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Bind the apple mixture and help it set into a soft, custardy pudding when baked.
Butter
Adds richness and fat, giving the pudding a tender texture and flavour.
Bread crumbs
Form a crisp, absorbent layer that soaks up moisture and browns on top.
Apples
Provide the main body, moisture and tart flavour of the pudding.

The step that matters

Let the apple mixture cool before adding the eggs. Beaten eggs added to a hot mixture can scramble and curdle, leaving lumps instead of a smooth, evenly set pudding.
