Bread Pudding

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Butter the sides and bottom of a deep pudding dish.

  3. Place a layer of rolled fine stale bread in the bottom of the dish.

  4. Add a layer of fruit and sprinkle with a little sugar.

  5. Repeat layers of bread crumbs and fruit until the dish is full, finishing with crumbs on top.

  6. Make a custard by mixing the milk with eggs as for pies.

  7. Pour the custard over the top of the pudding.

  8. Bake until the fruit is cooked and the pudding is set.
