Why it works: Celery and lettuce match in chemistry and in kitchens. They rank in the top 4% of all ingredient pairs, and cooks put them together in 2,033 recipes. Both carry nonanal, which smells fat, citrus. The science ↓
Stuffed Beet Salad
Ingredients
Directions
Boil the beets whole until tender and of uniform size.
Cut a slice off the bottom of each beet so they stand upright.
Scoop out the insides carefully, keeping them whole.
Peel the beet shells and let them cool completely.
Cut the insides into cubes and mix with parboiled potatoes and celery.
Combine with mayonnaise or French dressing.
Fill the beet shells with the mixture and top each with a slice of boiled egg.
Serve on a bed of lettuce leaves.
