Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cream
Whips into a light, airy froth and forms the body of the dessert.
Strawberry or raspberry jelly
Adds sweetness and fruit flavor to the cream.
Fresh fruit
Supplies juice and flavor that is folded into the cream.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the flavor and balances sweetness.

The step that matters

Whisk the mixture lightly to a froth. Cream is whipped only until it holds a froth; overbeating turns it grainy and can cause it to separate into butter and liquid, so light whisking keeps it smooth and airy.

Swap the lemon

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (cream, strawberry, peach, sugar):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Raspberryfits better
  3. Blackberryfits better

Fit is the average pairing score against cream, strawberry, peach, sugar. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
