What each ingredient does

Lobster
Provides the main meaty texture and flavour of the salad.
Oil
Carries fat-soluble flavour and keeps the marinated lobster moist.
Vinegar
Adds acidity that brightens the lobster and seasons it during marinating.
Hard-boiled eggs
Add richness and a firm, creamy texture to the border.
Mayonnaise sauce
Adds fat and creaminess that binds the salad together.

The step that matters

Marinate the lobster in oil and vinegar for 2 hours. Acid in the vinegar slowly firms and seasons the lobster surface, while oil carries flavour into it. Timing matters: too short leaves the flavour weak, and too long can make the lobster texture turn firm and rubbery.

Swap the beetroot

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (lobster, vinegar, lettuce, pepper, egg, cucumber, anchovy):

  1. Mustardfits better

Fit is the average pairing score against lobster, vinegar, lettuce, pepper, egg, cucumber, anchovy. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
