Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Peaches
Provide the fruit base and flavor that the custard and meringue sit on.
Milk
Forms the liquid base of the custard that thickens when heated.
Egg yolks
Thicken the milk into a smooth custard as they set with heat.
Tapioca
Thickens the milk during cooking, giving the custard body.
Egg whites
Whipped to stiff peaks to form a light meringue topping.

The step that matters

Cooking the custard until thickened. Egg yolks thicken the milk as they heat, but overheating can make them curdle and turn grainy. Cook gently and stir until the custard coats a spoon.
