Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 300°F (150°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

Prepare

  1. Scrape or peel the potatoes and place them in a chopping bowl.

  2. Add enough flour to fill a teacup, along with salt, pepper, and butter to taste.

  3. Chop the mixture finely and mix well.

Bake

  1. Grease a deep pie tin and spread the mixture in it.

  2. Cover with cream and bake at 300°F (150°C) for 30 to 45 minutes.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Potatoes
Form the bulk of the pudding and give it a soft, starchy body when baked.
All-purpose flour
Absorbs moisture from the chopped potatoes and helps the mixture hold together.
Cream
Covers the mixture and adds richness and moisture as it bakes.
Butter
Adds fat for richness and helps the top brown in the oven.
