Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Milk
Forms the liquid base that the starch thickens into a pudding.
Corn-starch
Thickens the milk as it heats, giving the pudding its body.
Eggs
Add richness and help set the pudding as it cooks.
Chocolate
Provides the main flavor and dark color of the pudding.

The step that matters

Adding the egg and starch mixture to the boiling milk. Stirring constantly while adding the mixture prevents lumps and scrambled egg. Starch needs sustained heat to thicken fully, and the eggs must be kept from curdling by beating well as they join the hot milk.
