A Good Plain Pudding

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 300°F (150°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Cover the bottom of a buttered pudding dish with pieces of bread soaked in milk.

  2. Add a layer of chopped apples or berries.

  3. Sprinkle with sugar and spice if desired.

  4. Repeat layers until the dish is full, finishing with bread on top.

  5. Moisten all layers well with milk.

  6. Cover the dish tightly and bake at 300°F (150°C) for three hours.
