Ice Cream Cake

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Cream together the butter and ½ cup of sugar.

  3. Add the remaining sugar and cream again.

  4. Alternately add the flour and milk until all but ½ cup of flour is incorporated.

  5. Beat the egg whites with ¼ teaspoon of cream of tartar until stiff peaks form.

  6. Mix the baking powder into the reserved ½ cup of flour and beat it into the batter.

  7. Fold in the beaten egg whites and flavor with lemon and orange extracts.

  8. Divide the batter into two layers and bake.
